8ish week old chicks. They eat and drink and act normal, but we had a cocci problem when our last chicks were raised (maybe 8 months ago) for the first time ever.. DSC_0094.JPG DSC_0095.JPG
But, yesterday and today we've found a few droppings like these???

Looks like coccididiosis
Treat all your chicks with amprollium as soon as you can
And be sure to keep their coop clean of lots of poop because it spreads through their feces and goes back through their mouth when they are pecking around

Thanks! I cleaned the coop yesterday. They are outside but in a portion of a dirt floor coop which stays "mostly dry" but unfortunately its been raining and a few spots are soggy in there. Keeping up on cleaning, I have Corid and will add that this morning! Thanks!

Another question. We'd never dealt with cocci until our last birds, so forgive the question - 3 of 6 died. Bought them last fall, they're 8 months old now.
The remaining three 8 month olds have been treated with Corid and then DiMethox (when younger). They haven't been treated since, 4 months old or so? But a 4th bird recently died, leaving us 2 of those 6.

Could the have picked it up again and need to be treated? Will I have to treat regularly?

I had thoroughly cleaned their coop and we've had a long cold neg. temps winter so I thought it would be dead and gone.
These hens (the remaining two 8 month old) have never looked heavy enough to me, seem to be thin but no other symptoms. They feel fine and recently began laying.

Yes, I would start Corid or amprollium in the water. Make sure that they are drinking the water. Are they outside or in the coop? Keep their bedding stirred and dry as you can, adding new bedding often.

It would have been good to have gotten a necropsy on your last pullet that died, to identify the strain of coccidia that seems to be in your flock. A couple of strains can be deadly. Whenever you get new chicks, you may want to always give them a preventative treatment. There even could have been a chronic coccidia infection, or she may have developed enteritis, which can follow coccidiosis. There may have been an immunity problem. If you lose another, refrigerate the body, and call your state vet to get a necropsy.

On day 5 of Corid but the droppings still have what looks like blood, but maybe its not. Seems more so now in fact. They had never stopped eating and feel fine, never acted ill - would you leave them alone after another day or two of Corid or try something else?
