McGoo, that's funny - my sister lived in Ossining for years and now lives in Carmel, where my DH and I lived for five years before moving to Massachusetts. The Hudson Valley is indeed gorgeous - great hiking in the hills.
About Buff Orps, I did chose them for their temperaments. Their reputation is well deserved. Our girls have had their moments early on (many months ago) when deciding who's going to be top hen, but I never see them chasing or pecking anybody at all now that they are older and starting to lay. Thank goodness. I can't stand conflict.
