Here is a pic of the chicks from my latest hatch. They are Mille Fleur D'Uccles and Speckled Sussex. They were shipped eggs that came from the same breeder at the same time. I hatched them in an incubator, then put them with two of my Silkies that are broody so they can brood them and do all the work for me!
You can easily see the white Silkie in the front, and if you look closely you can make out some of the black Silkie in the back.
The SS hatched very well; 12/15 eggs hatched. The MFDU not so well, only 4/17 hatched. Overall, it was a 50% hatch rate which is considered good for shipped eggs, but since the SS hatched so well, it makes me wonder what went wrong with the MFDU.
