So we decided to go with an ark coop with an enclosed run. We made it smaller than the original plans, only cuz I bought the wrong size boards. 8ft instead of 10ft. The coop is 3x6x6 and the first enclosed run is 5x6x6. Kinda small. So we just built another enclosed run yesterday after we had our newest bird, Dora, escape on us. She went over the fence into the neighbors yard and then into the cow field. Dora went exploring!

Here the coop:

we used landscape cloth (weed guard) to block the sunlight, and it works really well. Doesn't keep out rain, but still let's the air flow, which is nice.

That is really nice, and I love the bright color. The extra run you built is similar to what we want to build; it looks like a 2 x 4 frame.

I love that white vent cover you added. And the red is gorgeous. Designer chickens

PS I always put another one of those latches around the bottom too so nothing can squeeze in the bottom of the pen. Great work

Thank you all!

Yes, the new run is 8x10 in 2x4's. We wanted to make it longer, but ran out of boards, so we are going to make another smaller one to add onto the current one when needed.

And yes, RED. It's my hubby's favorite color. I wanted to just leave it white, but noooooo.

The back door we ended up with double locks for the reason you mentioned dixy. the bottom of the door didnt stay closed, so dh modified it somehow, and now it works great. His moto: you can't be over prepared enough!
