Now the waiting game begins....Piggles, my pot bellied, is in beginning labor. She hasn't eaten all day even though she has a bowl of food sitting by her. She is drinking water. She is having light contractions, but isn't bearing down.
I leave my barn gate open and the pigs come and go all day. I have had a pen set up for her for a week now. She would go in and look around but didn't spend much time in there until today. When she wouldn't eat breakfast I figured she was getting close so I opened the pen and she went in and has stayed there. I have the gate closed now so the other pots don't bug her.
I have been checking on her and just sitting with her and giving her belly rubs. She seems to enjoy that. The barn kittens are in the pen with her...well they can come and go through the gate. Pigs and cats get along well and my cats sleep with the pigs when it's cold. She doesn't seem to mind them being in there so they can stay if they want to.
Anyway please send good thoughts Piggles way and I will keep you updated. I think she might have them during the night so I'll be up checking on her.

Ahhh baby potbellies are the cutest things. We used to have a Potbelly but we gave it to my mom when we moved from AZ to FL because we didn't want it to go through the stress of that long hot drive. He has a great home with my mom, she totally spoils him. I'd love to see pics of your babies.

Awww good luck Piggles, hoping for a safe and fast delivery for you. Wanna see baby potties. I want one. Love Piggies.

Sadly, Piggles died early this morning. I'm still in shock but at least I know what happened now.
At least this is their best guesstimate without a necropsy. She ruptured and bled out internally. They think a piglet was coming down that Y. Not the birth canal but farther up inside. And that it got turned around sideways and began to struggle, possibly causing the rupture and killing her. The vet said it wasn't a thing where I could have been able to reposition the piglet because it was up too high. Poor Piggles.
She didn't act distressed at all at 5 am. In fact she was enjoying her belly rubs and moving her front legs so I could get to her good itchy spots. Pot people will understand this.
She hadn't done any bearing down. She was having mild contractions where the piggies were getting into birthing position. She fell asleep and was snoring and I came back inside, and fell asleep. At 10 am my husband woke up and went out to check on her, fully expecting to bring a piglet back inside to wake me up with. And he found her dead.
No blood, on her or in the pen. No indication at all that there was any trouble. She was laying on her side, dead.
I feel bad for falling asleep and not being there with her. The vet did say that if she bled out internally there wouldn't have been anyway to save her unless she was right at the vets when it happened.
I'm so sorry, Piggles.

I am so sorry for your loss. you must just be beside yourself. I will pray for your peace of mind and heart. You didn't know anything was wrong and you being with her wouldnt have made any difference, so please don't blame yourself.
