We are new to pigs and got two a month ago. One of them we noticed looked like he was limping a week ago and he has now had more trouble than normal standing up. Does anyone know what this could be and any suggestions on what to do to help? Thank you!

What type of pigs? Have you checked for hoof issues or swelling? Leg injuries with pigs are hard for a multitude of reasons. I'm sorry this is happening.

At least you'll have an easier time finding a vet who will see a farm pig. It could be an injury or an illness. You need to check the leg and hoof for any injuries, discoloration, and/or swelling to have an idea of what you're dealing with. If the pigs are used to people and friendly, some well-placed scratches may get him to lie down where you can really have a look, but if he's feeling poorly, he may be too uncomfortable for that. It's a lot of weight on relatively small legs. I would call a vet if you don't see improvement soon, but that's me.

Joint infection is a good possibility, look for pain/redness/swelling from anywhere between the shoulder to the hoof in all four legs. Elevated body temperature and lethargy/depression often are accompanying signs. Antibiotics need to be given for 3-6 weeks and sometimes you still can’t clear it (recurs once off the antibiotics). A long acting injectable like draxxin (cattle respiratory drugs) that last for a week are a good option and some are approved for swine. Penicillin isn’t practical or effective and oral antibiotics probably won’t reach consistent and high enough levels for that long.

This is how he sits most of the time.
