pine needles for bedding?

i had a major mite infestation. i took out all the hay i had and left my nest empty for the past 3 days. i had the idea of raking up the pine needles in my yard and puting this in my nest. it's only been one day but so far, i love it!! has anyone else ever used pine needles? dosen't pine and sedar materials repel bugs? i wanted to know if there are any possible problems with pine needles that i don't know about.

Use straw! Pine needles carry ticks and fleas, so you will make yourself a bad situation. A light sprinkle of sevin dust too on the straw helps.
