Pine straw as nesting material???

Has anyone tried using pine straw for the nesting boxes? I have plenty around and wondered if it would suffice!

I have used it. I have tons of pine straw and try and use as much as possible. I have found that my hens like to sit in hay better though.

I use wheat straw, but I do scoop up pine straw and toss it into the run for my girls to scratch in. There are yummeh worms in what I have! Also, when we have an excess of rain, the pine straw is wonderful for tossing in the puddles inside of the run. It doesn't break down like wheat straw and get soggy and nasty.

I use it all the time, too. Good in the nests and makes a decent litter, after a fashion.
Fine, or shredded, leaves also work.
