I'd like to worm my chickens for roundworms..........
I went to TSC, and they actually had NO chicken wormers!
Went to the local Agway, and all 'they' had was Durvet "Piperazine-17"..........for use in "dogs, cats, and horses".
Can someone advise me as to the dosage for chickens????
Label states '17 grams of Piperazine in 100cc'.............but only gives dosages for the above mentioned animals.

Also, is there any withdrawl time for eggs???

Thanks for any advice

ANSWER
one cc weighs 1 gram
so
100 divided by 17 equals 6.8 cc's
and remember 5 cc equals a tsp
so it is about 1 and 1/2 tsp of the wazine for gallon of water

any questions email me

Okay, Glenda...thanks for the dosage calculation!
But after I add the 1 1/2 tsp. to 1 gal. water...............then what?
Do I leave that 1 gallon avail as their own source of water?
If so, for how long?
Until it's all gone?
For 1 day?........no matter how much they've consumed?
Doesn't the 'size' of the chicken matter in how much they need to drink of the mixture?
i.e. if a little banty drinks 10 ccs of the water, and a big Sussex drinks 30 ccs of the water.......
do they each get the correct dosage?

Obviously still confused here!
Thanks

First State Vet supply gives the dosage for piperazine at 1 tablespoon per gallon for 1 day. Repeat in 10 days for treatment of round worms only.

eta - since different size chickens consume different volumes, the same dosage would apply to both.

The dosage for Piperazine 17% is one ounce per gallon of water.let them drink for one day..then repeat in ten days..Any dosage less than this and you're breeding super worms...

gabby, in response to your email, do a full 24 hour treatment and whatever they drink in that 24 hours is fine. They do not need to finish the gallon. Although depending on the number of chickens you're treating they may not finish it or may need another gallon mixed to keep them medicated for the full 24 hours.
