I was going to treat my hens with piperazine dihydrochloride 53% as a preventative deworming measure as we head into Spring. I have since noticed that at least one of my girls is having a respiratory issue (they have some different diagnoses that make them more susceptible to infections). After much research, I ordered some Doxycycline-Tylosin powder to treat the respiratory infection symptoms. I am hoping that the shipment arrives in time to treat her before her condition worsens.

What I'm wondering now is: Should I go ahead with the piperazine treatment in the interim, or would it be better to wait until after treating the respiratory issue before a preventative deworming? Will the piperazine treatment potentially leave her in poor constitution while ill? I'm unable to find any information as to whether these two medicines have any interactions to be aware of.

There is no such thing as "preventative worming". The medications are only effective on living worms in the gut. They don't affect parasite eggs at all, they only kill worms. So if you don't know they have worms, have not done a fecal to confirm them, or are not seeing any signs or symptoms, or do not have a history in your flock of repeated parasite infections, there is no reason to worm them. The medication will not do anything to prevent a future infection, it can only treat what is there right now.
If that is the case, I would wait on the worming and treat the respiratory issues instead.
