Placement of nest boxes and roosts

I am building a 8x12 coop. The bump out for the egg boxes will be along the 8 foot wall. Can I place the roosts and a poop tray on top of the nest box entry? So the poop tray would stick out over the nest box openings like an over hang. Or is it better to place the roosts away from the nest boxes all together?

Chickens are pretty adaptable creatures. Your suggestion is not bizarre nor untried. Lots of folks have the roost shelf/overhang....some have nest box openings underneath and others place the feeders and waterers and some have absolutely nothing. The most important thing is to have the nest box openings LOWER than the roosts so that the chickens do not feel compelled to sleep where they lay. (inadvertent pun there!)
