Ok I have worked on the new Hen House And I cut out a vent. I cut the vent out right where the roost is going to be. Is this ok?
Also. Instead of a lid to retrieve the eggs, I copied the idea of the slide out tray for clean up and made a slide out tray for the nesting area. It was dark when I finished. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

That is a great thread Petrel! Thank you. I will add several more tomorrow I different locations. The one area to not have vents would be the nesting area right?

Here are a few pictures.

Slide out nesting boxes seems a bit odd to me. Ideally, you want an access door so that you can reach in and collect eggs. Many times the hens are on the nest when I collect so I just reach under them to collect. Another large access door to change bedding and coop maintenance. Vents are best away from the roost bars and add plenty with hinged flaps so that you can tweek air flow and ventilation according to the weather.
