Plans for 2021

Jean, many people are coming to our rural area from other states. Unfortunately my state is not "free" either. But it is nice to see people who want to be free are moving away/leaving behind what isn't working for them.

I'm getting a new flock! I ordered 15 chicks from Meyer, a Golden-Laced Wyandotte, a Delaware, 3 Easter Eggers, 5 "production pack" mix, and 5 "assorted rare breeds"! Previously, I had 2 Silver-Laced Wyandotte and a Plymouth Barred Rock, so my experience is minimal going from such a small flock of 3 to 15 (hopefully) hens.

Before they get here, I need to build a brooder, order chick supplies, like a warming plate because the heat lamps terrify me. Thinking 3 105-qt Totes is a good amount of space for chicks, food, water, heat source, etc...my plans include over-thinking the access from one box to the next and being able to secure them individually as "hen hospitals" later.

Then, I need to turn my larger coop about 90 degrees to free up a little more ground space in the run, build quite a few more roosts in that coop, I want to switch from the big open feeder to the easier to manage PVC feeders. I need to add another water source, ordered some Horizontal nipples because I just loved the vertical nipples for my other girls. And a later project (over the summer) s to get enough nest boxes up for all the laying to commence! I figure I need at least 5 boxes...with the old cat pans my other hens used, plus the 1-2 in the smaller coop I was given, I need at least 2 more.

Then there's all the "non chicken" stuff going on in my life...life is busy, but very good!

Lol, yeah....and now planning on major surgery too! Not putting chickens off another year again (had planned on getting them last year), so will make it work somehow!

After I ordered my chicks fir the April 26 hatch, I found out I may be having surgery. I didn’t plan for it this year, but gotta take life as it gets thrown at you. Lol.

Very true! I have a great support system that will help where needed. For now, I’m trying to get as much as I can done early so it won’t be too much for everyone else!

Getting about ~150 new birds, plan to keep ~half and sell the rest, and set up breeding pens. Plans range from oddball bantams you ain't seeing in this part of the state currently, to fancy standards, a sexlink pen, and hopefully some silkie ducks if I can get some.

1. lead my high school soccer team well this year.
2. double the weight I am lifting.
3. learn how to drive.
4. get a summer job.
