Thank you for your advice. Was thinking of planting some lilacs just not sure they are safe. Grapes would be nice too. I guess if I plant marigolds they wouldn't last long The girls would love them.

you could try a green ash tree they grow fairly fast and don't get too big for the first 10 years but at 20 years they can reach 35 feet.

One of my chickens absolutely adores the leaves on my banana plant. It won't grow because she keeps getting into it. It would produce nice shade. Bananas for you, skins for chooks.
