Play sand for dustbath?

So I'm new to quail here (we just hatched some about 10 weeks ago) and I was wondering if play sand is bad for them? I was reading somewhere a while ago and it said something about it but I can't remember what it said. Right now I give them a larger bowl type thing full of play sand and a scoop of dirt for a little grit. Sometimes I'll throw their egg shells in there too but any other advice for the dust bath would be helpful! Thanks!

I don't use grit, i give them eggshells time to time and let some of them play out side when it's sunny and i give mine playsand and they're fine! also, bugs would be good for them too.

Ok! They're outside so they have tons of bugs but one of them was acting off so I was wondering if it could be the sand.

Sand is bad if they're eating it. Adult birds usually know better, but chicks don't.

What happens if they eat the sand?

Play sand can get impacted in their crop. You can use construction sand which is coarser and doesn't stick together quite so thoroughly when wet.
