Thought I would share this story as I've never seen a chicken act this way. She is a 6 month old Polish hen....every time my daughter or I approach the pen....she will run to us dodging the other chickens like it's a game. If we move to the other side she will do the same thing...or even fly over the others. It's the funniest thing I've seen! If you stand in one place too long, she will run in circles or run to the side she wants you to go to. I will have to get this on video. She does it everyday! It has became a game with her. The most personality of any of our chickens. LOL

They sure can be funny, can't they? Enjoy!!!

Ditto. Both my chickens and my guineas have turned out to be the most incredibly playful, goofy, truly loving pets I've ever had. I had no idea how smart and aware they are, they are so perceptive, my Lydia (profile pic) even argues with me when she wants to stay playing in the yard and I say it's time for us to go inside. She knows she isn't safe out there without me (she lost her brother to a feral cat, they're all over my block) and wouldn't dare stay out there without me so she argues and begs for me not to walk back in the garage, lol. She "argues" by making a petulant, whiny little peep as though she's saying "come on mom just five for minutes pleeeeeease" and she does wear me down sometimes because it's so adorable. Chickens seem to love fun just as much if not more than any dog I've had. For me my birds are like my children not just because I love them so much but because that really is the dynamic between us, they run to me for safety and mope about if I spend less than a couple hours total per day with them. They're more appreciative than most kids though, lol, sometimes I honestly feel like I can see the love and gratitude in their eyes when I "tuck them in" every night. Somehow it's a very rewarding feeling, and the way they dance around and goof off every morning when I let them out (my guinea even flies onto my shoulder) is such a great way to start the day.
