I have this playground area. We are removing the play set and going to build a coop & run. Can I use this playground sand for the run or should we remove it? We don’t plan on using it in the coop itself. It is not super fine.. it does have smalls rocks and such in it. Obviously it would be much easier to leave it but I hear it can be bad and cause respiratory issues?

Is it worth it to completely remove it all down to the dirt or would you leave it? Thank you!

Hello! :frow Welcome to BYC!
I would just leave the sand as is. My hens love dust bathing and scratching in play sand!

I'd just leave it...you'll likely cover it with other bedding and it may help with drainage.
Good drainage is very important when choosing/planning the site.
All can depend what and how you plan on building for a coop and run.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate is almost always a factor.

It's easy to do, then it's always there!

Girl..... just put up some tall posts and enclosed the whole playground set and use it as the chicken coop! You already got an awesome 'coop' without even knowing it! :)

This definitely crossed our minds! I just don’t think it will last as long as we’d like. So we are selling the set and using that money for new supplies!

Wise, wise choice, Kudos!

First thought after my last post was to applaud you for not trying to turn that play set into a coop, they are rarely big enough and need much modification to be even semi-functional....so here, better late than never :clap.
