Playhouse coop?

We will be getting our chicks in about a month, so we have some time and I'm brain-storming coop/run ideas. I'm thinking we may use our son's playhouse, raised up on some boards, for the coop. We'll add nesting boxes and roosts. For the run, I'm thinking a 10x10 dog kennel so we can walk in and out easily. Has anyone else used either of these for a coop or run? Any suggestions? We are new to all this, so are eager for advice from experienced folks!

That sounds great. You will need to make the dog kennel more secure because of the chain link fence they are make of. By that I mean predators can get to the girls through the squares in the fence. Hardware cloth along the bottom. Your idea sounds great. Have you look at the coops section on here to see how others have used similar ideas.
