Just want to say be extra careful closing the door of ur birds. The rancher that watches my 13 cochins grand daughter fed them lsat night but must have not latched the door properly, a pit bull came last night and killed all of my cochins. The ranchers border attacked it and sent it on its way and no one knows whos it is. I havent been out there yet but i will tommarow to take pics and look around for the owners dog. I still have Akela and kai my blue and partridge girls here but thats it.

So just wanted to remind u guys be careful. Always make sure the coop is locked up and that everything is secure.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Dogs are extremely dangerous predators.

Is the rancher's daughter going to compensate you for your loss in any way?

Ohhh that is awful! I am sorry!

Bless your heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. I just came inside after checking on a disturbance outside...found two husky/malamute dogs prowling around my shed. This time they got some firecrackers, next time it's the 12 gauge.

no shes only 12. I would ask the rancher but i feel bad as it is not exactly his fault but an accident and he takes care of my birds as hes three towns away.

Sorry for your loss. Are you sure the door was left open or latched? Dogs can get though chain link fences when they want something. A standard chicken coop would be nothing. Good luck.

I also do question whether or not the latch was being secure was the cause. A pit bull in a frenzy after chickens is one real tough animal. Were there any signs of the dog breaking though the coop door such as scratches on the wood or breakage near the latch. Loosing your birds is terrible but it may just be one of those things. That dog may have just been overly determined to get them. I bet that poor kid feels terrible. Either way I'm sorry you lost your birds.
