Hello, here is a 10 week old NN cockerel… just wanted to confirm that he is a cockerel! He has so much red on him, so I think that’s a good inductor that he is male. The comb is such a weird shape. But fairly flat. Not much for wattles yet.

He is half OE and half NN silkie. Confirmation on gender would be great before I give him away.

I don’t see any red on this chick except skin and that is perfectly normal.

Olive eggers are mutts, not a breed; silkies are notoriously difficult to sex. I wouldn’t be able to say either way.

Turkens are a breed, commonly called Naked Necks. This chick is not that, it’s a mutt. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Thank you @igorsMistress - Sorry if I mislabeled him as being a naked neck. I tend to call all my chickens with that gene NN. He definitely isn’t a turken. Thank you for the info - maybe the red skin is in the realm of normal. I have seen some female turkens with red skin but since he isn’t a turken I wasn’t sure.

I have a same-age, full blood sibling of this chick that seems to be more female looking because her comb is even flatter, and she has no red skin. I’ll attach a pic of her just in case it makes it more obvious that the white chick is male.

I guess that I should continue growing him out just to be sure. But if anyone thinks that he’s for sure a male, then I won’t keep growing him out here.

That comb looks male to me, but the head crest is very organized like a female. So this one could go either way, definitely inherited the difficulty from silkies 😅
lol I think you’re right! The comb does look like it leans male - I havent ever seen a comb like this. Im guessing that his hairdo will start getting a little more crazy and full of streamers soon… I guess that will be my sure sign haha!

Honestly for the white chick it is the lack of wattles that had me the most suspicious. Since he has no beard I would have thought he would have wattles coming in by now. But maybe he is just late.

All you are waiting for is the crazy hair! Usually when they start coming they are obvious
