I am sure I cannot be the only one with many bantam roos. Honestly, does anyone eat them? I tell myself I am sure people do, but maybe no one admits it? I was talking to a gentleman recently and mentioned my extra bantam roos possibly going into the cockpot. He was floored and looked at me like brain was leaking out of my head.

“Oh, no, young lady; not enough meat on those things” This after he already told me he love eating dove.

(I guess I never thought of dove as meaty)

Ok, so has my brain leaked from my head?

I once had an obnoxious bantam rooster I called Chicken Salad. I figured if you boiled him up there would be just about enough meat on him for one serving of chicken salad. He commited suicide before I could find out though.

My extra bantam roos are at the Fair right now. I would think there would be more mean on them than dove. And we have had dove before.

Your brains are right where they belong. Ya gotta do something with them. How much meat is on a frog's leg, or in a snail, or a scallop or shrimp? If you don't expect to feed four with one bird, you're fine.

Dare I say it? They will taste like..............

You are definately on the right track. Unpteen years ago, I used banty hens to brood and raise 12( RIR, NHR, and BR chicks) each from Sears mail order. I sometimes let a banty hen hatch out her own chicks when the hens got older for replacements. Man, they were some mean mommas! The roos we used to make chicken pot pie. Not too much meat but Very tastey. (They do taste like chicken).

Even if they don't have much meat on them, they make very good Chicken Stock. Lots of people make that and don't use the meat because they cook it so long to get every bit of goodness into the stock.... Add whole Celery stalks, carrots and onions. Use a fast Simmer until thick and rich. Filter out what is left of the chicken and veggies. Yummy concentrated stock. Then freeze it up in 2 cup and smaller (like icecube trays) to use to flavor, rice, pasta, soup, vegetablesor whatever.

You can grind up what is left of the bones and other stuff to feed to your dogs if you have them.
