Hello! We have had our chicks for a whole week now, and think they are approximately two weeks olds. We bought them at Tractor Supply and were told they were 1. Leghorn 2. Wellsummer and 3 and 4 were both Easter Eggers. One of the Easter Eggers is much smaller than the others, and has leg feathers and looks rumples. She is getting pecked on the butt by the other Easter Egger so aggressively that its making her bleed. None of the other chicks are doing this, and she is the only one getting pecked. Can we stop this behavior?

hi, I am No expert and hope someone can help better, but I have seen this kind of behavior in my older chickens when one is hurt and bleeding. They are attracted to the color once the poor thing starts bleeding. i would separate the little one until it heals, help it grow stronger and bigger with special attention, and then carefully reintroduce. I’m not sure what the wound looks like, but I have used hydrogen peroxide and A and D ointment to heal wounds. Best time to put chickens together is at night. Good luck.

That's what we thought. We put the little one with the Wellsummer, who is very docile. They are happy together, and the other Easter Egger gets along well with the Leghorn, but eventually they are going to have to figure it out. It healed up pretty well. The little one gets pasty butt, I think because she is rumples. So her butt gets washed daily. Good to know about the reintroducing at night.

so good to hear. Chicks cause me anxiety in the early stages for some reason, they both are and are not fragile. pasty Butt is annoying, but treatable. Once I realized chicks are not going to break apart like dandelion seed I was able to use a warm wet wash cloth and get those nasty spots without worrying I was wiping its butt off. Glad that stage doesn’t last long 😅. Good luck 🍀

They are. It amazes me how fragile their parts are but how they can withstand such environmental pressures. This my favorite one
