Please help! ASAP, water diarrhea, closed eyes, my favorite chicken Nutmeg

Hello everyone, love this site and learned so much from it but i have to make this post quick. I'm a first time chicken owner and my sweet head hen Nutmeg went sick suddenly. She has watery diarrhea and is tired all the time, closed eyes, hiding etc. I noticed it yesterday, but didn't know which chicken it was coming from but it's definitely her. She is hiding and closing her eyes a lot. I brought her inside where it's warm and gave her a blanket to sit on. I'm giving her soaked pellets to get some food and fluid in her. She east a little every time she wakes up. All i have on hand is corrid, vitamins and electrolytes. I have a tractor supply down the street where i can pick up some dewormer. Should i try giving her some corrid, if so how much? Also can I give her soaked bread in water. I have a felling she's eat that cause it her favorite treat. Please help asap. She's My favorite sweet little hen. Thanks so much!

Thanks chick-adee. I'll check out the thread. I wish more people could offer some more suggestions. This is my first time with chickens so I'm not familiar with all the diseases etc. I put her in a dog crate in the house for the night to keep her warm. She still has watery poop. One of her poops looks like it had blood in it. Couldn't tell if it was intestinal lining or something else. Her egg that she laid today also had a little blood on it. So I went ahead and put some corrid in her water and see if that helps her. (two teaspoons to a gallon of water.) She ate a little bit of her pellets and some boiled egg, but bread soaked in water is all she really wants right now. I'm so worried about her. I hope she'll be ok. She's my confident friendly chicken and always perching onto my head to see what treats I have. The flock feels lost without her. Took a pic of her weird bloody poop and egg if that helps.

You're doing a good job! Keep it going! If you want some people to post make a random post on it occasionally and it will get some interest. I'm a new chicken owner too, but just keep going. I have a really friendly chicken thats sick also Her name is Owl. Keep doing what you're doing, and she will get better!

Look for posts by Kathy @casportpony , she has a wealth of information and patience in treating chicken illnesses. I don't personally have a sick chicken (thank goodness), but I do get a sense of relief whenever seeing her posts answering urgent questions by other chicken owners. Hope your baby feel better soon.

Hi chick-adee thanks for the advice. I hope your Owl gets better. I'm praying for her. It's so stressful to have a sick chicken.

I've been A long time lurker here and I've notice that Kathy knows her stuff. Hi Kathy!!! I think I have a vet in the area that looks at chickens but we're really tight on money. I was hoping to try to treat herself myself, but i would be willing to take a fecal sample to the vet if it's not too much money. The good news is she was looking a lot better yesterday. I was trying to keep up with the amount of water loss she was loosing. She got lots of bread soaked in water. That seemed to help keep her hydrated. Her poop is still mushy, but nothing like the first day. It's smelly with some undigested bits in it. Sorry but I'll get some pics of her poop later. Gtg to work. I'll do a bigger update after I get home.

I just wanted to update that Nutmeg doing MUCH better and is back with the flock and laying again. Her poop is still a bit loose though. I though I maybe should de-worm her and the rest of the flock since I never had. They're almost a year old. I don't see any worms in their poop, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. I'm just a little scared to do it because I read that it's hard on their systems. I don't want Nutmeg to get sick again. But I figured if she's healthy enough that she's laying eggs again, shes healthy enough to take the de-worming. I have a few questions before to make sure I'm doing everything right.

Is it ok to do the first de-worming with valbazen? (I've read opposing opinions on this site)

I weighed my four hens.

Sugar: 5lb 6oz
Ginger: 5lb 3oz
Sassy: 4lb 13oz
Nutmeg: 5lb 2oz

I've read that each chicken gets 20mg/kg, which is about .2ml per 2.2 pounds.

That would mean that each of my birds would get about 0.4ml/cc of Valbazen. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm kinda rounding off here. Would that be a safe/effective dose for each?

Would 0.4 be the fourth line on this syringe? (see little red arrow) ml/cc are the same measurement I think? Then I re-dose at ten days later. It it ok to give them some probiotics during the treatment? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly.

How did you treat nutmeg to get her feeling better? This is happening with my chicken right now.
