Please Help! Egg bound??

Our 5 month old chicken laid her first egg yesterday... now she is seemingly needing to lay another... tried to lay in the nesting box and didn’t ... now she seems distressed, is panting, pupils dilating, back hunched ... is there anything we should do?? *Edit** we just found an egg!! So not egg bound! Is it possible she could be in shock??

Can you get her drinking some water? How is she doing now? Can she stand and move about? Is she eating layer feed or getting her choice to eat crushed oyster shell for extra calcium? You can always insert a clean or gloved finger inside her vent to check for a stuck egg.

So we ended up finding an egg! So I don’t think she’s egg bound after all... I suspect that she was suffering from heat exhaustion (it’s very hot here, and then laying an egg may have pushed her over the top??) Thankfully she started drinking water and eating when we offered it out of our hand... she’s walking around now. I’m keeping an eye on her, hopefully we’re out of the woods. Thank you for commenting!
