My duck got her head pulled through the pen outside during play time, I have no clue how or why and she had only been out for 30mins. I was freaking out I thought for sure she was dead but once we freed her she flopped around and I snatched her and brought her in, once in she calmed down and lifted her head. She has two puncture wounds in her neck, we "supposedly" don't have coons, skunks, or opossum here but they have caught a few so I'm not sure if it is fact or not. So now my problem is my duck with two puncture wounds on the back of her neck, they are small but bleeding, I washed her with anti-bac soap and then dabbed Neosporin on the wounds. Now what? She has a clean cage inside, food and water and is walking around alert and peeping. I feel horrible, I think it was a cat claw, please advise.

She is 3wks old.

Posting pics in a few mins.

A cat claw would not be as serious as a cat bite, thankfully. Has it stopped bleeding? If it were me, I would keep her in the house in a Rubbermaid Tote to try and prevent fly and therefore maggot infestation. I would keep her dry (no swims) until the scabs were starting to fall off. And I would try and get my hands on some Baytril. I use to purchase it in a small, non-heparinized blood tube wrapped in tape (to keep light out) from the vet and would then draw it up into a syringe to use. I now have my own bottle to use. I can get you the dosage if you decide to go that route. Metacam to help with pain control could also be given for a few days. Again, let me know if you need the dose. Thank goodness you found her in time. Can you wrap a piece of small gauge chicken wire around the sides of their cage at the bottom so this can't happen? You can use zipties to fasten it and then easily remove if you don't need it anymore.

Ok, it has stopped bleeding and I did bring her right in she is in a bin with fresh water clean wood chips and chux pads.

If you live in the US you have the predators that you mentioned, may not see them but they are there.

Just keep the wound clean and if you need to clean it use Betadine that has been diluted 50% with water. Do not use Hydrogen Peroxide as it will destroy new flesh coming in.

Just watch for infection and hold off on anti-biotics unless you can see the wound getting infected. Basically treat it like a wound on yourself. Critters are tough and the duckling should be fine.

I agree......I would not give antibiotics unless it gets infected. You could put some neosporin on it if you want and keep in the house until it heals a bit.
