I started with 6 sexed pullets, 2 of the 6 are looking like roos. The light brahma I have is almost definite, my RIR just started getting a red comb and wattles at the tender age of 5 1/2 weeks. I have 5 more chickens from a fellow member, I think they're all roosters,
They have rose combs, they all have red in their combs now, many have wattles. So frustrating! kids keep getting attached and I keep having to put ads in the paper. The chicks are 'designer' chicks, mixes of blrw and other birds. Very pretty, but at this point with all these chickens I think I have maybe 4 that will be laying for me. I don't have my computer, so I can't post pics (arghh) I'm using an old dinosaur while mine is being fixed! Do any chickens get red combs at 5 1/2 weeks and turn out to be pullets? I have straight run silkies in my brooder (probably all male
)
and three sexed pullets in another brooder (maybe a hen in there
)
I had no idea it was so hard to get hens!!!!!
i think at this point I'll keep plugging along, let them grow up and lay or crow (I have a feeling it's gonna be quite noisy out there!
)
and see what I end up with. on the bright side, everyone is getting along great! I bring my 2 and 3 week olds out with the big gals (guys) when it's nice out and they all do great together!
Anyone have any red combed chickens turn out to be girls???
I could use a ray of hope!
