what the HECK is wrong? I saw a few spots last weekend and they looked like dried blood and I thought it might be my other 2 dominant roos pecking on his, but last night I went out to inspect everyone to see who was going to need baths for the show and look at him now!!!!! I do not see anything like this on any of my other birds (hens or roos). Could this be some sort of mite? or could it be that I need to separate him from the other roos? Is this something I can get cleared up in a few weeks or do I need to pass on showing him????

Looks like Fowl Pox. You would have to look up the incubation and period of contagiousness for this disease in order to know whether he will be fit to show or not. I do know that it is highly contagious.

I'll start researching now - where could it have come from? I haven't had any new birds in a several months and they came from a VERY reputable breeder/shower. This just started appearing in the last week or so.

i've been emailing back and forth with several breeders (and one sent the pics to an APA judge) and right now the majority is saying bites of some sort. He has no issues with his eyes. They are bright and clear. And there doesn't appear to be any growth like in the most of the fowl pox pics I've seen.

I've separated him and will treat him with iodine and see what happens. Thanks!
