Something must have tried to get my duck at the pond. Thankfully it mostly missed. But she has a very injured foot and I don't know what to do! It's torn and bleeding. I have her back at the house in a large farm tub. Please look at pic and advise. Thanks!

Oh my, poor baby! I would clean it, wrap it then take her to the vet. They may need to stitch her foot or glue it. You will need antibiotic.

Best wishes!

Mine got a smaller injury like this, I made a small pen in the grass so it would be cleaner and put some antibiotic ointment on it and it healed well. It was a lot smaller though. Hope it is ok

Thanks guys. I ended up taking her to our vet. She cleaned it well and put some salve on it and wrapped it up. She told me to change the bandage every day or two. Having watched what the vet did, I'm sure we could have done it - but I feel like such a newbie at this and wanted to be sure she got the best care.

We are on a snapping turtle hunt now!

I'm just really sad now because our ducks are so traumatized. :( When we lost our drake, it was a fox or raccoon who had taken him from the other side of the pond where they loved to hang out. Then they wouldn't go near that side anymore. And now that Cocoa has been injured and they saw me carry her off, they are scared of us now. :( They always come running when we go to the pond and follow us all around. And now they won't come close. I'm sad. :(

Glad it was able to be fixed. I wouldn't let them back on the pond till you get the snappers we've seen people come here where their ducks and geese have lost feet and part of legs one even got a huge chunk taken out f it's chest.

Try using fish hooks baited with oldish raw chicken to catch the snappers. One time I used old chicken to fish in our local pond, and as soon as I cast the line a snapper would be trying to get it.

I am still devastated daily by my poor duck's foot! Every time we unwrap the bandage, the bandage has stuck to her foot, meaning basically going back to the beginning because it rips the skin off!! The vet's bandage did that, so when I rewrapped it, I used nonstick bandages. Well, they stuck too! Today when it happened, I tried using liquid bandage. I put a bunch on there and let it dry really good. Then I put another nonstick bandage on and wrapped it. I will check it tomorrow and hope it has helped!

Any other suggestions, please let me know! :)

You might try putting something like tripe antibiotic or neosporin on the foot or bandage first them wrapping nothing with pain relief in it. But because both are in salve form it may help keep the bandage from sticking.

I'm not sure what bandages for bed sores are...

I did put neosporin on when I bandaged it with the nonstick bandage. And it still stuck. :( But I wonder if it was on there too long - 2 days?
