Please Help Me Identify This Week Old Chick

Hello everyone,
This is my first post so I apologize if I get the formatting wrong. I am a pre-veterinary major and in my animal science class we hatched chicks. They hatched on September 30, and I am taking this one home on Monday. This is my first chicken and I would appreciate any help identifying the breed and sex. The eggs were taken from my professor's neighbor, who owns several breeds of chickens, and the chick is probably mixed. The pictures were taken when the chick (who I am naming Cluck Norris) was one week old. Any Help is appreciated!

Agreed. Post back when the chick is 6-8 weeks old. Make sure the pics are clear, not washed out by artificial light and you include the comb and a full body pic of the chick standing up.

That said, are you only bringing home the one? I'd hit a feed store, or go online and order others. Chickens are VERY social animals and will need more than itself in a flock. It is possible for the chick to become so despondent and lonely that (s)he could die from lack of company.

I will be getting a silkie from a feed store to be Cluck's companion. How far apart in age can they be? Also is there any precautions I should take when introducing them? Cluck Norris is bigger than most chicks in the group and can get a bit pecky.

You can have them about 2 weeks apart, and I'd make sure you don't get bantams if (s)he's large fowl. (S)He'll bully the heck out of a bantam sized chick.

Silkie chicks are pretty tiny and are pretty awkward; they don't really keep up with 'normal' chicks. I was going to bring home a week old to go with my week old shavers, but ended up getting one at two weeks old instead and she was still half the size of my three shaver babies. That being said, they got along fine. She was awkward and did her own thing, but integrated immediately with no fuss. They don't really start in on the pecking order stuff till around 5 weeks, so that makes integration very easy at this age.
If your little one is bigger and already pretty rambunctious, it sounds like it may be a 'he' judging on behavior alone. Boys also tend to be a bit more human-friendly early on. If you're going for a girl silkie, look for the shy one that raises a fuss if you pick her up. If you get the most excited, alert chick - you may end up with a boy. Silkies will keep you guessing until the end either way though... good luck!

gender: I’ll guess male bc that comb is already wide and turning pink at 1 week old.
