Ok, I really need some help here. I am at a loss. These are the symtoms:

closed eyes
runny noses
gasping for air
diarrea
very contagious

I do NOT notice a smell with any of the sick birds

I have bought a antibotic that is mixed in with the water. Forgot the name...think it is a giant word that starts with S

Today is day 2 on treatment. I started with 2 sick chickens that I purchased, it quickly spread to 2 of my Buffs & now a silky & a polish all have it! This all happened in 3 days! I am geving the chickens the medicated water by siringe 3 times a day. It is also in the drinking water they have out all day.

Is there anything else I can do? I am very concerned. I love these chickens like my pets. And I also have 41 2 month old chicks not 1 foot away from thier coop. The 2 month olds do not share water, but they are close. Can they get sick?

Thanks in advance.

Will they get better?

Isolate.

Vet Rx (diluted) with a dropper once a day into their mouth... put a little in the water... follow the instructions.

I usually put a little antibiotic in the water with vitamims.

Put a little wet mash in a feed dish for them too.

chickens don't get colds, there are different viruses that they can get. How long ago did you get the new birds? Did you isolate them at all? How old are they? Here is a site that goes through some of the different viruses, hope it helps.

Is it sulmet that you bought maybe?

Take a look at infectious bronchitis and see if it seems to match most of your symptoms. It is highly contagious and airborne so if that is what you have get your other birds as far away as possible. Do you happen to have oxine? If so, you can fog the coop to try to kill the virus and help your birds fight it.

Good luck, hope things get better for you.

Agrim.......that is the beginning of the name of the stuff I bought from my local feed store for my chickens.

Where can I buy this Oxin? Can I sanatize my coop with a bleach water solution also?

please help...
Can I sanatize my coop with a bleach water solution also?
need to know what I can do to save my chickens? If not the adults, then the baby chicks. They are seperated, but right next to each other.

It's a shame that you did not isolate the new birds for a month. This shows you what can happen when you bring new chickens in. Here's a mental picture for you:

Picture a dirty, smelly, vermin-ridden, coughing, runny-nosed homeless man on the street.

Then picture him being invited into the newborn nursery at the hospital, being allowed to walk around touching all the babies, dipping his finger in their milk bottles.

Make you cringe?

Bringing chickens home from the flea market or some unknown farm is almost the same. People who have paid the price by losing all their birds will know next time.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but the birds are losing their lives and it's a shame, both for them and for their owner.

Thanks for your non-help.

Is there anyone that can?

I know all that!

What I do not know is what I asked.....

Yes I made a mistake. My chickens are paying for it and I feel upset and mad at myself. I do not need anymore help on that part...

If you can isolate the healthy birds from the sick I would. Also cleaning everything with a dilute bleach solution is always helpful although Oxine would be a better choice.
I've given sick birds an injection of Penicillin G with good results. Just make sure you allow filled syringe to reach room temperature and that no air is in the needle before injecting into a leg. The water soluble antibiotic for the entire flock is a good idea, as well as adding something like Poutry Drench to their water.
