Hi all,,,

Where I board my horses had the luxury of having 8 chickens dumped on their property. I guess the person who owned them decided just to get rid of them by throwing them on our property, What a sight that was- took us 2 hours to catch the poor scared birds.

Anyway, we built a coop and are keeping them because they are really neat animals, but we have no idea what sex or breed any of them are-(well except for 2 polish chickens who were easily identifiable)

I was curious if anyone can tell us the breed and male or female. We are clueless. Horses Yes- birds no! LOL...

Here are the pictures...

Lucky you, lookin' like all girls to me!

1. White Cochin
2. Black Cochin
3 and 4. Salmon Faverolle (one of my faves, BTW)
5. Not sure, maybe Silver Penciled Rock, not really familiar with colors of those except Barred
6. Wyandotte (can't say color for now, another I'm not very familiar with)
7. White or Blue Cochin (can't tell from the pic)

Very pretty birds! Good Luck!

The Faverolles are so cute! I have one named Frankie, she's a doll. She hides under our porch all day to keep cool, but if you stomp really hard she starts to yell. It's really kinda fun!

Really fun breed to have.

1.)White Cochin - pullet
2.)Black Cochin - pullet
3.)Faverolle- pullet
4.)Faverolle -pullet
5.)Silver Pencilled Rock- pullet
6.) Blue Laced Red Wyandotte - Roo
7.) White or Splash Cochin (hard to tell from pic) - pullet

Honestly, I can't for the life of me figure out why this flock got dumped! It's a newbie dream flock, with docile easy to handle breeds, a really good hen to roo ratio, etc. It's a bit heavy on broodies, but you have the Rock and the hatchery Favs, they'll lay pretty much daily for you. Usually dumps like this are unwanted roos.

I'm baffled.

You should play the lottery, this is an awesome haul. When I started, I had to work for two years to reach a flock balance like this just out of newbie trial and error.

Thank you all for the help!! We are sooo relieved that there is only one rooster...We don't know who dumped these chicks or why they dumped them. It was quite humorous though trying to catch them. A couple little kids found them out front of the farm by the Pepsi machine, so whoever dropped them off did so when no one was around. We initially thought there were only 7 but ended up finding the 8th one stuck in the Pepsi machine. We had to pull the Pepsi machine's front cover off to get the poor girl out. (It was the black one. I guess we can't call her Houdini like we were because we know she is a girl now!)

I might be back to this forum asking a million questions, because we know nothing about chickens!! LOL...

BTW... the horses were totally freaked out when they saw the birds for the first time. They kept coming up to the fence, snort, and then run away! I can't wait till the rooster starts to crow!

Thanks again to all... You were a HUGE Help and relief!!
