This may certainly seem like a really stupid question but here it is.....We've had chickens for years but this is the first time I've had to give one medication orally or even looked down ones mouth.
As I am looking into her mouth I can see past her tongue & down her throat but then I also see a small hole on the left side of her mouth just past her tongue.
Is that small hole suppose to be there? What hole is that? Which hole do I put the medication in, that small hole or down her throat?
We have searched may websites (including this one of course) and have found no real good photos of the inside of a chickens mouth much less a website that thoroughly describes one, so that is why we posted here in hopes of getting better insight and answers that we need.
Thank you

Avoid the large hole in the center of the picture above—it is the airway or trachea. The back of the throat toward the chicken’s right side, is the place where to insert a crop or feeding tube, and in the picture they are inserting a syringe there.
I usually just give a drop of liquid at a time inside the beak, and let them swallow each drop. Pull down on the wattles, place a drop inside, release the wattles for them to swallow and repeat. That way they do not choke.
