Hi there.

There are 1-month old chicks for sale on my local Craig's List. Unfortunately, the seller can't discern the gender or the breed. The gender doesn't matter to me as much as the breed. The seller is not sure if it's a silkie. I adore silkies but can't have them for now as my other chickens are regular-sized. Would you please help me identify the breed and gender of the white chick in both photos? Thank you!

I can tell you this much. The little black one is a silkie. Bantams are smaller as chicks so yes, they are smaller then regular sized chicks.
The white one is a frizzle, looks like cochin??? no sure. The cream/ginger colored one, I have no idea. Hope this helps some. Silkies are hard to sex, and the frizzle ????? I am having a hard time because the comb is weird, especially if it is a cochin.

Thank you, that does help! My main concern was that the frizzle is not a bantam or a silkie as I can't have any smaller breeds right now. But if all these chicks are the same age, and the frizzle is bigger than the black silkie, then it's safe to say that it's not a silkie, right?

the white looks like a sizzle, frizzled silkie. I have some frizzled bantam cochins and sizzles in a pen with some big girls and everyone gets along pretty well. It's my pure silkie pen that I have fights in. Good luck

Thank you for the diagnosis. Since your sizzles can stay in the same pen as the big girls, it makes me want to take a chance and get it!
