Please help with bugs

Hi all.

I had a broody hen which I recently discovered that there was a rotten egg under her that cracked and seeped into the bedding. So I took the chicken out, and while I was cleaning the nesting box, there was lots of tiny mites crawling around. I cleaned everything and put down DE everywhere. I took out all the bedding and burned it. I’m not sure if I got rid of all the mites, I doubt I did. But now I’ve had them on me for few days. How do I get them off of me?? Anyone with experience? Please help.

DE is not effective as some claim it to be. Get some permethrin spray and it’ll take care of it. You can find it in the horse section of your local feed store.

Get a permethrin product that actually works. Martins or Gordons 8 ounce conentrate from TSC makes gallons of spray when mixed with water, and can be used with a spray bottle. They also sell ready to use sprays for horses, and permethrin garden dust.

I would clean up the broody’s bottom, and clean the next box well, because maggots can get in there and on the hen after an egg has broken.

Thanks a lot. I’m assuming the bottle won’t say a ratio for poultry since it’s not intended for them? Do you know the ratio of water to product? And do I spray the chicken with it too?

Thank you so much for pointing out the product. Do you spray the chicken with it? If so where on the chicken? And can you still eat the eggs after spraying this?
