Please help with my bevel cuts!

I am starting to make my rafters for the coop. Sorry if I’m over thinking this or asking basic questions. I’m trying to cut 45° on the long side. But my circular saw only cuts 2” or so. Is there a different way to position the wood?
Ultimately I want to join the two pieces of wood together at a 90° angle for the peak of the rafter.
How do I cut if I only own a circular saw and jig saw?

Do you have a rafter square? You can use one as a straight-edge for the circular saw or the jig saw.

Is the base of your saw on the wide side of the 2x4?

Ah, yep, by the looks of the angle of the circular saw in the background it appears you're trying to cut it from the narrow side. Set the saw to 90 degrees and cut along your line on the wide side.

No, thin side. I need to make the cut at 45° down the long side so I assumed I’d have to angle the saw and cut down.
