Hello! I am currently incubating 6 eggs that are all on day 23, and none have hatched, but I still see movement when I candle them. I finally decided to open one up to see what was going on (which was a terrible idea) and there was a chick that was still alive, but it still had a pretty large yolk sac? I put some Saran Wrap over the top but I’m not sure what else I can do. Is there anything I can do to save the rest? I still see movement in about half of the eggs. My incubator stayed at a good temperature and humidity, so I’m not sure what could have gone wrong. If you have any suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

Sounds like possibly your temperature may have been lower than was being registered. Do you have a second thermometer in there with the eggs? You could turn up the heat a bit but unless you have a secondary thermometer in there it may be risky. I would let them be. Can you use candle wax or crayon wax to cover the opened egg? I used clear packing tape and candle wax and my broken egg lived. She's 8 weeks old now

I’m so happy that your chick made it! After some further research, I think that the seller gave me an incorrect date for when they were laid. I was increasing the humidity and everything to prep for the hatch. The chick is perfectly healthy considering it’s younger than I thought. I hope that the increase in humidity doesn’t hurt the rest of the eggs, but I will continue what I was doing for another few days and see what happens. Thank you!

Date laid doesn’t affect hatching date (but older eggs may be less viable) the count starts when temp is warm enough. Get a separate thermometer/hygrometer or three, my first hatch of quail was day 19/20, next batch hatched day 16/17 (normal) by upping the temp one degree!

I know this reply is really late, but thank you so much! I totally forgot that the eggs go dormant for a while during shipping! Your advice helped me hatch 5 perfectly healthy babies! Thanks!
