I have 7 bobwhites they are only 2 weeks old this fri. One of the chicks has a little blood on its beak, I'am not sure what to do. Is he sick? I am new to all Quail please I need input. Thanks!

bob whites are notorius peck monsters! they go specifically for feet, legs, and nostrils!!! it starts about 2 wks of age and stops when they die. 1st--- very large brooder! 2nd--- red heat lamp. 3rd--- slightly lower brooder temp. 4th--- put some hiding places in the brooder so any that are getting picked on can go hide and get some relief. 5th--- a large pie plate full of sand to dust bathe in helps break the monotony and decreases pecking.

good luck!

I have 8sq. feet, red heat lamp, temp 90-95. He gets around fine, eating good, but seems to be sleepy all the time unlike the others. He is a little smaller than the rest, maybe they beat him up when I'am not looking. The blood does seem to come from his nostrils, just worried he sick.

He's A Runt And In The Quail World He Is The The Biggest Loser. Unfortunately They Will Start With Him. He Has Taken A Good Whoopin. I'd Seperate Him Or It Will Likely Continue Until They Finally Kill Him. Once He's Gone The Next Weakest Or Most Meek Is Next. This Is Typical Quail Behavior Unfortunately. As Far As Treatment I Wouldnt Do Anything--- He'll Heal Up Amazingly Fast On His Own.
