I bought 4 three week old chicks. They are almost all feathered out and last week I placed them in a separate fenced in area inside my coop to keep them protected from my adult flock of mixed breeds. I have a sweet Cochin who has been constantly pacing around their fence for over a week! Like she's safe guarding them. I haven't seen her out in the run for food or water although she seems healthy. She doesn't even come out for their morning treat of fresh greens. I'm worried and would appreciate any advice you can give me.

I don't know what might be up with your little chicken. Odds are she might just be treating your younger chickens like her own chicks, and would much rather keep an eye on them than eat. She'll eat eventually, though, I'm sure! I've never seen a chicken not want to eat! XD

If she's not better in a few days, then maybe you should look into something, better information, possibly, on what she's doing.
Sorry if I wasn't able to give you a very good or straight answer. :/ This is all I know about this situation, really.

I would let her out and see if she wants to take care of the chicks. It's odd that she would want to take care of them when she's not broody.

Just see what happens if you let her out. Keep a close eye on her though.
