Ok so My Hen's eye was Dislodged! Its Kind of like Backwards and sticking 1/4 of an inch out! I put Ointment on it and gave her asprin but its swelling ALOT She is in pain but she still stands up eats etc. My parents dont have money for the vet and they think it will heal up But I'm Soo Scared I dont want to lose My Baby! if we leave in the eye what will happen will it scab over or fall out? this is what i dont understand. what do I do? :'( we are putting saline in it too.
Should I pull the rest of the eye out?

Do you know how this might have happened?

I definitely would not try to pull the eye out without a vet. There are a lot of nerves, muscles, and vessels associated with the eye.

I'm sure it can be a painful thing for birds, but what is she doing that makes you say she is in pain? This may give me clues as to how this could have happened.

If the eye truly was damaged, it will most likely undergo necrosis (die) and fall out on its own.

Thank you So much for replying! How it happened was My brother was feeding our chickens some stale bread and our dog came over and tried to eat some of it her due claw got into the hen's(Bits is her name) eye in a tussle it swelled up immediately. I can tell she's in pain cause when she doesn't have any aspirin in her, she lets out this weak, sighing cluck. Aspirin helps her a bit but I don't want to overdose her i have just been feeding her 1/4 a pill of 81mg aspirin ever 12 hours or so.

Ok thank you! So the eye that is sticking out might fall out on its own? Should I just keep putting on the stuff and wait and see? Sorry to keep bothering you I'm just really worried!

I would just leave it alone for now. If it got damaged, it will most likely fall out on its own, but I'm willing to bet things will reduce once the inflammation goes down from the trauma of the dog claw. Chickens are pretty resilient! If the eye remains, her vision may be affected, but she should do just fine. Just monitor for infection! (Though the eye may look worse before it looks better)

The eyelid and around it has turned gray is that normal???

It is possible that it is bruising, but it could also be dying off of the affected tissues. Both are normal in this circumstance. As long as the eye is not infected, I would just continue to monitor it.
