These are 3 of my 6 week old chicks and all I know is that they are brown egg layers. I am guessing that I have at least one Rhode Island Red, but the others may be Buff Orpington, Golden Buff, or something else. Also, they are all supposed to be hens, but I wonder if one of my Barred Rocks is a rooster. When/how can I tell?

The dark red is a production red and the red and whites are red sex links. These look like pullets as their combs are small and still yellow. If you have a comb starting to turn red at 6 weeks, you may be looking at a cockerel. With Barred Rocks, males will be lighter in color. Post a pic and we can help you out!

What they said, Hatchery Rhode Island reds and Red sex links ,I have MANY MANY RSL's, the red and white is def female hence the red sex link, and the RIR looks like a pullet too!!
