I delibrately got a Red sex link chick to get a hen. "She" was reddish brown as a tiny chick. I saw other hatch mates and some were creamy buff/yellow. I did not pick one of those, I picked the darker reddish one. Now, Marmalade, is about 12 weeks old, jumping on the backs of other hens, sounding like the beginnings of a crow. I cannot have a rooster in the subdivision I live in. Here are 2 pics of Marmalade. What are your opinions out there?

i say hen because the small wattles and comb and the tail and plus has no spurs. But then it looks incredibly like a rooster. Has it crowed yet? i think its a hen not 100 0/0 though

For a red sex link, it looks like a hen, and sometimes a dominant hen will actually crow and take on some of the characteristics of a rooster if there isn't one around to tell her it's HIS job, not hers. That said, whether she's a roo or a hen, if she's crowing you'll probably have to rehome her....

That is funky. The color says girl, and shape of main body (not leg/neck/tail) looks girly. The body stance, the tail, and the comb/wattles reak rooster.

It is true, dominate hens will mount the other girls, and start to crow. However, I'm not sure if that is your case.

I am wondering if you did have a hen however, that turned into a rooster, or a funky breeding mistake.

http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKChange.html this is a quick document about chicken Sex changes. It's creepy, but it does happen. Or maybe just a strange colored rooster. I would check to see if you get fertile eggs, but considering where you live you may want to see if the person you give him/her to will do it for you.

Strange..
Good luck,

Marmalade also looks to have spur bumps... Although I had a hen with spurs, soooooo...

I do think it's a roo though. Sorry
