Please show me your breeding pens for Silkies!!!

I have not finished my silkies pen but I plan on dividing an action building in half one side for silkies and the other d'uccles with a run for each. If you guys now me you know I hate wet chicks so of course with a tin roof over the run. Hopeful red lol. That my plans thanks M To The Maxx for asking. Good Luck with yours. Funky Feathers, I like your little green houses ! One of the things that checkes my eye is all the snow. I live in Canada and am looking for away to keep small breeding groups of silkies. I have a few questions about your coops.

what are the demensions of the houses that you find works best? how many birds do you keep in them? How are they ventilated?

Any other details or pictures that you might be able to offer would be greatly appriciated. thanks

Hi, I am not the one to ask on that. I no longer have Silkies anyways. But the pen I had them in was (I think) 10 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 3 feet tall. It had poor ventilation, as I didn't know much about it back then. Ideally you want a strip of ventilation along the top of your pens. The roof should overhang to keep water/snow out of the ventilation areas. I recommend hardware cloth, not chicken wire as the screen. Raccoons can break through chicken wire. Also rats/mice can get in with chicken wire. My pens are raised up off the ground at least 2-3 feet, due to tidal flooding. Hope this helps. The pens I most admire are Destiny's & KY Silkies.
