Please tell me I can fix this!!

Ok I noticed this today,that my 5 week old Dominicker is walking on the side of its foot.

Its not a broken leg,I've felt on it and everything. I noticed that it was a little different a few weeks ago,but walked fine and got along fine with the others,just couldn't get on the roost,so I figured it was just a late bloomer on that part.

Now I feel like I might have over looked a bigger problem. I absolutely cannot cull this baby,I do not have the heart to do it.He doesn't act like he's in any pain,and has already taken up with the female dominicker thats the same age as him. I think its affecting his other foot too though. I am so hoping I can splint this or something... can anyone help me out here. I'm going to cry.

I think it's probably too late for a splint to do any good, but if he gets around ok and isn't in pain then I would just let him be. I have a Cochin pullet that broke her leg...I splinted it, but it healed twisted...she gets around fine though and it doesn't seem to bother her.

try and splint it as long as the splint isnt hurting him than i see no reason not to try ,...good luck

Tried splinting it,but its like his leg has just grown crooked,it doesn't stretch out,so I can't even get a splint on it.

I don't know what to do now,I would just be content with letting him be if I knew he'd be fine,but its like his other foot is going crooked now from holding the weight,and walking weird. You can see in the pic that the toes on his other foot look deformed from it.

try giving some Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins, Enfamil brand if possible..no iron..give 2-3 drops on beak once a day for a week..then taper off for another week.

sometimes these leg problems can be caused by riboflavin deficiency(Vit B)..and other deficiencies.

do you give them chick vitamins?
what all do you feed?

describe the chick's droppings..
try and keep the chick confined to a warm safe smallish area with food and water..so it doesn't have to fight for food..or be injured by others.
area can be just be a division..1 chick for company helps..

thanks for the info. It does look like a slipped tendon from the pic on that link. I had some vitamins here,started him on them today. As far as answering your questions on feed and his poop.....he acts just like a normal chick,he is very alert,gets around with the others,just differently ofcourse. His poop looks completely normal....nothing out of sorts at all. They are on chick starter 24%. I bought the best my TSC had there. He is still in the house here,I keep all my chicks in here,till I know 100% they are ready to go out. So I'll keep a good eye on him.

You could also try "chick boots" Tape a credit card to the bottom of the feet so the can't remove them (obviously, cut the card to fit the size of his foot in a natural walking or standing position) and see how that goes... I hope it all works out for you! Good luck!
