I have a beautiful black star pullet about 5 weeks old who suddenly came up with a walnut sized knot on its breast, right in front of the right wing. It's fairly solid in texture. She acts completely normal, but she has always been one of the most timid chicks I have. What could this be?? I'm very worried about my girl.

It could be a tumor.
It could be an abscess.
It could be a foreign body.

It is hard to know, and not a whole lot of us are qualified to give a diagnosis on the internet.
Have you taken her to a vet- or shown her to someone with a lot of poultry experience?

Sorry I can't help much... a picture would help, though.
Good luck with your girl!

At 5 weeks old a tumor is unlikely. It is probably an abscess. Some pics would help.

X2 When I first got chickens I scared myself because the crop was so full next morning checked her it was gone. Figured out it was her crop.

Is the crop off to the side? I thought it was more in the midline?? I am gonna go check her right now!!

Newbie chicken keeper crisis averted!!! I went to check her this morning, and low and behold, no bump, so I fed her a really big treat, and felt again in a little bit, it was full!! Wow, do I feel dumb now!! I never had chickens that lived this long. I am just a bit of a nervous hen mom. Thank you guys!!!
