My daughter will be devestated this is her favorite one which she named rarity. We are not allowed to have roosters where we live. I'm beginning to think that she might actually be a he (but I'm new at this) It has darker feet but the comb is larger then my RIR (is this because they are just different breeds). If she is a he I would like to know sooner or later before she gets any more attached. Not sure if it is still to early to tell though. Hope these pics work if you need better ones let me know and I'll try to get what you need. Thanks

Yea 2 good news answers. The comb is what made me question it. Compared to the RIR its bigger is this just something different between the 2 breeds?

I'm guessing a girl - couldn't see the beginnings of any wattles on the bird - which my barred rock baby roo had, and started to redden at about 6 weeks.

supposedly you can sex barred rocks by the coloring on their feet! don't know enough about that to help you though.

Thanks now I don't have to break any bad news to my daughter she's 4 and I would have hated to have to get ride of her (the chickern) if she was a he.

Congratulations, it's a girl!!! :)

The comb is about the right size and yellowy color for a 5 week old pullet, and I don't see any little pink wattles showing. :)

All of my barred rock pullets started growing their combs early and I was beginning to suspect they were all roo's too.

These are my second group of BR chicks, and I ordered all pullets. In my previous bunch there were a few roosters and they were definitely lighter in color than the pullets.

I didn't know you could sex BR's by their legs-I would love to know how.
