I know, chickens are sooo warm. I will pick up a baby and put it on my lap and put both my hands under each wing. And they are so soft too.

My favorite thing about my turkens, besides their lovely big eggs, is they're great moms. I had 2 of mine go broody together, share a nest of eggs, and raise the babies together. They were so fun to watch!

Congratulations on a beautiful pullet. You'll love her feisty little butt.

Oh I am so happy! I feel at ease now, thanks everyone. That's great that they are broody, I want to try hatching at least a couple eggs in the future

The first and only rooster we ended up with had to go to a new home with "friends" of the family. Somehow he got killed, supposedly the dog did it. But a few weeks later when we called to ask to visit the two girls we sent with him, they told us that they had dumped them off in a random yard of somebody who had a flock of chickens! They told us that one hen started to make loud noises all night for 2 weeks. Instead of calling us to pick them up, they dumped them because the husband was going to slaughter her! She was clearly mourning. We finally got the address and we are going to try to explain to the people what happened, but now we are going to have to quarintine them until we can put them back in with the flock. I know most people are probably thinking that we should leave them be, but I don't know if these people even care for their chickens properly of if they are going to butcher them. Sorry, I had to blow off some steam there.

Wow! That is an awful thing to do. Poor chickens, I'm sorry for them, and I'm sorry for you. I hope you can get them back, or at the very least ascertain that they are in a good home. HUGS!

Thanks

Actually, We have been stressing about free ranging the birds all day long without protection and today I realized that we really don't need a rooster to protect the flock, I am sure Josephine will be glad to do it

I am so glad I don't have to worry about giving her away, I am so in love with all of them. It was so hard to give our other birds away. It's like giving away your children
