Plymouth Rock Hens or Roos?

Thank you! That was my suspicion. I’m still learning, but do pullets not also have a white spot on their head? To your question about starting my flock with just these, no, I have a few other lavender orpington chicks that I’m hoping are ladies. Thankfully we don’t live in an area where roosters are not allowed, so I’m planning on keeping at least one. The others will either be sold, given away, or dinner.
My hens had a touch of white on the head, but the roo had a big white spot like the one in your first picture.

Good luck with your flock!

I have gone to tsc and they let me handle the chicks (with gloves on) I gently lift a chick by its head and if squirms and runs his feet, he's a boy and if she just hangs there it's a girl. I believe if you use multiple method you can narrow it down.
Good luck! :)

Ok! Yeah, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if any of these turn out to be girls. We shall see! Do you happen to have any pictures of your hens and rooster when they were little? I’d love to have something to compare these to.

How interesting! I’m curious to give this a try now. So far they’ve all been pretty squirmy when I hold them.

I’m back with an update! The barred rock chickens are about 7 weeks old now, and I’m pretty certain that I have two pullets and one cockerel.

Of my four lavender orps, I’m thinking two girls two boys.

This method isn't accurate. But people keep passing it around, as well as other variations.
Some of these methods do harm the birds, as well.
