i just read on another topic to store eggs (before incubating) with pointy side up. and i've got mine stored with pointy side down. am i doing it wrong?? also, don't you also have to put them in the bator with pointy side down?

Pointy side down. The larger end has the air cell and that is the end you want up so when they internally pip they do it into the air cell.

it was somewhere in the thread entitled "why no washing/disinfecting eggs"......

O.k., i read that thread and finally found the weird point-end-up advice. I believe Rancher was showing us an example of weird/incorrect advice that is against all accepted methods. That whole article was strange.

Pointy side down for me as well.

But when mama hens sits on them they're laying on their side. That rule is not necessarily absolute, but I prefer pointy side down.

ok....whew! i was beginning to worry! thanks so much guys! i love everyone here! this is how i learn!

Yup !!!!!! Down is the way..................... Regarding washing, some do & some don't. My thought is if it's really nasty for some reason I do a gentle cleaning but for the most part they are alway pretty clean, Don't want to introduce a nasty egg in a hot humid incubator is just a breeding ground for problems.

thanks! and another thing i forgot to mention....whoever shipped my eggs, shipped them pointy side up. will this be bad for the eggs? i've had shipped eggs before, and they were pointy side down.
