Hi everyone. I've run into a problem that I think is going to turn into something really bad if I don't take care of it.

I have 4 white crested polish chickens. 1 of them got her plum wet so now every time she drinks water, scratches, eats etc her plum picks up everything.

I wanted to find out if it would be a good idea to cut off her feathers since this has been going on for 2 weeks now. I was hoping that they would dry off but since they hang over her beak every time she drinks they get wet again. I'm worried that she will end up picking up a disease or end up unhealthy because of them.

I haven't run into this problem before since these girls are my first set of chickens and I'm pretty worried about her since they are obstructing her vision and are most likely getting dirtier.

Has anyone run into this before? Should I just cut them off?

My Silver Laced Polish Roo could not see a thing with his feathers. Every time I went up to him if I didn't make noise to alert him as to me coming close he would jump and run fast usually right into the fence. So I cut all feathers away from his face. He can now see in all directions and appears to be MUCH! happier. Go ahead and cut it. I'm sure they will love you for it.

Yeah that has been happening with her. Normally all my chickens follow me everywhere, but she just ends up looking really confused and walking in random directions. Before the rain started to fall I was having to carry her around since she would get left behind.

I'm guessing the feathers will grow back or fall out/grow back?

I had to cut the front of my polish's crest because she had stopped eating because she could not see where the food was. She is much better now and gets out there to get her share of the treats. So yes cut the crest if you need to.
