Free "Mystery Chick"...friend says pullet. Agree? I think it is a Polish.

Most likely a buff laced Polish, but way too young to sex. For Polish, 8 weeks is a good starting point because they can be difficult to determine. Feather sexing will not work with this breed. That trait must be specifically bred for, as with Amberlinks.

What am I looking for at 8 weeks? Do they vent sex at the hatchery? They sell them sexed.

Well if it was sold as a sexed pullet then I would assume that's what it is. I've never seen buff laced sold as anything other than straight run, but it's certainly possible.

At 8 weeks you can look at crest shape, and the size and redness of the comb.

Wasn't sold as a pullet, I just know they sex theirs. Surprise chicks are whatever they throw in there.
